Frequently Asked Finishing Questions…
Finishing
What types of needlepoint finishing do you offer?
The Salty Stitchery Studio specializes in ornaments, door hangers, tray inserts, pillows, stand-ups, and select custom finishing projects. If you have a unique idea, I’d love to discuss it with you.
Do you require extra rows around my stitched piece?
Extra rows depend on the individual project and finishing style. If there are important design elements close to the edge that you do not want to lose, adding 1–2 extra rows is recommended. Irregularly shaped canvases may also benefit from additional rows to allow for proper finishing.
A good rule of thumb: If you want the stitched design to finish close to the edge, stitch an additional 2–3 rows on 18-count canvas or 2 rows on 13-count canvas.
Can I request specific fabrics or finishing styles?
Absolutely! You’re welcome to provide your own backing fabric, trim, or specialty fibers, or I can select materials that best complement your stitching. Simply include your preferences on your Project Form.
What materials are used during the finishing process?
Projects are thoughtfully finished using acid-free mat board and professional finishing techniques designed to preserve the integrity and longevity of your needlepoint. Glue is used only when constructing gusset-style pieces and is limited to securing interior foam components as needed.
Can I drop off my stitching instead of mailing it?
Yes! In addition to accepting mailed projects, The Salty Stitchery Studio also offers convenient drop-off and pickup through participating needlepoint shop partners. Simply indicate your preferred return location on your Client Information Packet.
Pricing & Turnaround
Do you require a deposit?
A deposit is required to secure your place in the finishing queue. Remaining balances and shipping charges are due upon project completion, prior to return shipment or pickup.
What is the current turnaround time?
Turnaround times vary depending on project type, seasonal demand, and material availability. Projects are completed in the order they are received.
The current estimated turnaround time is approximately 2–3 months.
If your project is needed for a specific event or gift, please include your requested deadline on your Client Information Packet. Every effort will be made to accommodate requested dates whenever possible.
Will I receive pricing before finishing begins?
Absolutely. Every project is individually evaluated, and a pricing estimate will be provided before any finishing work begins.
Classes & Community
Do I need prior needlepoint experience to attend a class?
Not at all! Beginners are always welcome. Classes are designed to be approachable, encouraging, and enjoyable for stitchers of all skill levels.
